Limitless Greatness

The heavens declare the glory of God;  and the firmament shows His handiwork.

(Psalm 19:1, NKJV)

Children have a delightful way of expressing their emotions uninhibited.  Last month, I watched a 6 year old boy look at a beautiful building with wonder and awe, he covered his mouth as he muttered words like gorgeous, awesome, beautiful.  He kept a smile which showed more of his heart’s appreciation of what he was looking at.  As I watched, his reaction opened my eyes to how as grownups we tend to lose sight of what is right before our eyes.  Our rational minds are quick to summarise what we see and move on, but for this young man, he took his time to consider what he saw and without shame he showed us his appreciation and joy in the moment. Many of us live in beautiful spaces but we have gotten so used to the scenery that we do not spend any time to acknowledge the blessing of what we have been accorded.  It is as if the beauty of the spaces are for others to see while for us it has become unrecognizable.  I confess that I have found myself guilty of such thinking and attitude, in our push for more and greater according to our hearts, we lose out on what is right before our eyes, greatness which is hidden in plain sight.  All we need to do is look with new eyes.

Our reference verse speaks of the greatness of our God.  We read that David spent many days in the wilderness taking care of his father’s sheep and so he was well acquainted with the landscape and nature.  It is however notable that even though he continually lived in the wild, he did not fail to acknowledge the majesty, beauty and magnificence  of nature.  In looking at the creation of God expressed in nature, David saw the greatness of the God who created it all.  Indeed, nature is one undeniable area where we freely see God’s splendor, His glory and creativity which are beyond our ability to comprehend.  David having known the unlimited God, he trusted and pursued Him even when others thought it was foolish.  When David met Goliath, he did not see the huge frame of Goliath that others feared, David instead saw the greatness of His God and so he ran forward (1 Samuel 17:45-47).  David knew his God was bigger and more powerful than Goliath and so he took the fight.

Beloved, the size of the steps we take in faith are highly dependent on how we see our God.  If we think of God as strong and powerful, we will trust Him with things beyond our ability.  Jesus when He healed people, He kept referring to their faith, let it be done according to your faith (Matthew 9:29).  It is the measure of our faith that determines what we get.  His word tells us that He will meet our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).  Brethren God does not answer us according to our needs but according to His riches which are limitless, the only limit we create for ourselves is our faith, the more the faith we present to Him the more He does for us. His word promises that He does things beyond what we can even ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), He does them great for He is great and mighty. It is encouraging to know that our God is not limited as we are, we however know, it is one thing to know and another to believe.  The bible says that we have all been given a measure of faith (Romans 12;3), may we deliberately exercise and grow our faith by the word of God (Romans 10:17), then watch the Lord step into our spheres with His power and might.  It is His pleasure to show up for His children, let us through our increased faith create the space for Him to do as only He can do.

Thoughts:

How have you experienced God’s greatness in your life?

How has this impacted your faith?

On a personal level: Have you considered anything too hard for God?
