His Ways

Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

(Psalm 25:4, NKJV)

When we meet anyone from the first time, what we notice are their actions and behaviour.  Whether the person speaks or not, we see how they behave and this starts to form our opinion and understanding of the person.  More information on the individual is gathered through any words which will be spoken in our hearing or words that others repeat to us concerning the new individual.  All this time, whether the person is aware or note, we are absorbing information about him, and deciding what we think about him.  It is because of this that we find people talking authoritatively about another person, only after one meeting.  While the speaker could be confident about his perception of the new person, it is true that it takes time and deliberate effort to know someone.  Once we take the time to understand another person, we get to know not only their actions and voices but also their way of doing things, we get to understand their values and beliefs.  Once we have understood an individual to this level, that we can with a measure of confidence say what the individual is capable of doing or not.  The ways and inner constitution of the individual is what drives him and that is what we seek to understand in true friendships and relationships.

The bible reports that the children of Israel knew God’s actions but Moses knew God’s ways (Psalm 103:7).  The Israelites knew God’s provisions of daily food, His protection via the cloud and pillar of fire, they observed what God did.  Moses on the other hand, knew God’s character, as merciful, gracious, slow to anger and with unending love for His people.  Moses had spent time with God long enough, negotiated with Him over different situations and in so doing, He knew the heart, the reason why God did what He did even when the Israelites disobeyed Him.  The secret of Moses was time spent.  As believers, we need to deliberately seek to know God intimately.  The more we know God and His ways, the more we fix our confidence on Him regardless of the situation we find ourselves in.  Paul wrote that he knew whom he had believed in and was persuaded that God was able to keep him in faith (2 Timothy 1:12).  Apostle Paul could not have spoken with such confidence unless he had taken a journey of faith with God where he had observed the faithfulness of His doings.  Beloved, as we get to know God more and more, we are changed into His nature, we get to be like Him, taking on the attributes of God (2 Peter 1:4).  The power of God at work in our lives changes how we look at things, so that we see things the way He does.  One measure of our growth is how we pray, as we spend time communing with God, our prayers gradually change so that we do not pray our selfish desires but we learn to pray the will of God.  At this point, the journey of faith we have taken has changed our will to agree with the will of God.  In prayer and in life, all we want is to be closer in our communion with God and this pleases the Lord for it is an entry of His Kingdom into our world and environments.    Apostle Paul in writing to the Hebrews assures us that as Jesus sanctifies us, we become like Him (Hebrews 2:11), we are one with Jesus our big brother.  As God changes our revelation of Him and we get to know His ways, we are also changed in our natural lives as our perspective of situations has changed – our view becomes God’s view.  We are not alone in seeking God, He desires intimate relationship with us more than we can ever understand. May we allow ourselves the time to know God, may our hearts burn with a desire for intimacy with the Lord.

Thoughts:

How is your experience of intimacy with God?

How has your revelation of God impacted your life?

What do you need to do for deeper intimacy with the King?
