Do It

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

(John 2:5, NKJV)

on a daily basis a lot of changes and new ways of doing things are being introduced to us.  Keeping up with the required information and knowledge to any level of efficiency is difficult for many people.  In my view, I find there are times to just accept that I will not spend time to understand some of the things, as I make choices of what is important to focus on and what to let go.  I guess I am not the only one who feels overwhelmed as new circumstances and situations come along my path, at times opening doors to places that we have never imagined before.  These new spaces often call us to making quick decisions, at times with little information not to mention no clarity of the matter.  In such moments, the one thing that we desire for is honest guidance in making the right decision.  It is also true that there are times when we are the trailblazers and there are no heros or mentors who can speak to our situation conclusively.  Such moments are very unsettling especially if we do not know or understand the consequences or implications of the decisions required.  Beloved, as I reflected on such a situation, I was comforted by the quickening in my spirit that the word of God remains our true guide.

Our reference verse is from Jesus’ first miracle where He made good wine out of water.  Mary the mother of Jesus, knew that her son had power to change things in moments when people are challenged.  The bridegroom had ran out of wine and there was confusion on what to do.  Mary watching the situation, tried to convince Jesus to do something and when she turned to the catering team, she clearly told them to just whatever Jesus told them.  This was powerful instruction, it did not matter what Jesus was going to tell them to do, Mary had simply clarified that they will need to obey exactly what He says.  Beloved, this is hope for us when we find ourselves in situations where we do not know what to do.  God’s word is our guide, the word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105).  In moments of darkness and failure to see the way ahead, God’s word provides us with illumination of what we need to do and the position to take.  We know that God’s word never fails, it always accomplishes what it has been sent to do just as we see with the seemingly simplistic instructions which Jesus gave of pouring water into the pots and then serving out the same as wine.  God’s word to us will always achieve God’s purpose to us and so we must learn to trust it (Isaiah 55:11).  There could be many moving parts around us, but God’s word remains infallible, always dependable.  Just in case we are tempted to doubt and question the word of God, may we be reminded that Jehovah God has exalted His word above His name (Psalm 138:2), His name is above anything we can ever think of imagine.  God’s word is truly His bond and character and He will watch over its performance at every step (Jeremiah 1:12).  God does not just give us His word, He follows it up to ensure its full performance.

Beloved, in the different phases of our lives, once we have the word of God concerning the matter we have an assurance of the end result.  We will need to seek the Lord about the situation, ask for His wisdom where we are lacking (James 1:5) and blessed be God for He will answer us once we call on Him with all our hearts.  He is not one to leave us lost in the wilderness, He is a good Father who wants to see us come through situations victoriously.  All He is asking of us in these moments and in each step of our lives is that we get to trust Him with all our hearts (Proverbs 16:3).  As we trust Him, He guides our paths and orders our steps.  Andrea Crouch in his song “Through it All” reminds us powerfully that in times when we do not know right from wrong, we can find blessed consolation in God, He is committed to seeing us through.  Beloved, whatever you might face, lean in for a word from God then watch Him perform it for you.

 Thoughts:

In what areas of life do you desire divine leading?

How have you faced times of doubts and fears?

What has been your experience following God’s word through dark times?
