My Way
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts”.
(Isaiah 55:8-9, NKJV)
All created beings, human and animals have been granted a mind to think and to make decisions. This is not limited by age but also includes children who regardless of their age will have an idea concerning something, even on matters food, a toddler will decide if they like a meal or not. Whether known to us or not, we are always using our minds to make decisions or even to speak when we need to. Our experiences influence how we think and how we act and that means that we are always learning either from others or from the results of our previous actions. This however, does not necessarily mean that all people learn all the time, it very much depends on the individual’s disposition. Learning is a virtue and it is said that when one stops learning, they stop living. This is a heavy statement but maybe worth considering in our disposition to continued learning, especially when we want to better ourselves.
Brethren, the bible reminds us that in the counsel of many, matters are established (Proverbs 15:22), this helps us to see the value and wisdom of seeking the wisdom of others in decision making. May we be quick to do so when needed. We however have heard individuals who will not listen to anyone else and their decisions will stand whether right or wrong, and so the saying, my way or the highway. Speeches and songs expressing individuals’ pride in their decisions have been composed, there is enough evidence of the successes and failures experienced when one takes this kind of a position. Allow me to look at one whose ways and decisions are perfect, our Father and our God. The bible lets us know that His ways are perfect and His word has been proven (Psalm 18:30). God’s word and direction does not need negotiation, for it has been proven as true and when we trust and follow Him, He shields us from failures.
Beloved, God in the assurance of His word, has reminded us in our reference verse, that His thoughts and ways are very different from ours, He is the one who declares the end from the beginning, accomplishing His good pleasure (Isaiah 46:10). Unlike human beings, God has the complete picture, He dwells in eternity and is not limited by times or seasons, the whole breath of time is in His view, He therefore can say His ways are not our ways. May our hearts be humble enough to ask for His ways in our decisions and activities, the perfection and superiority of His leading is worth following. No wonder we are encouraged to give our plans to Him for success (Proverbs 16:3), He also assures us that when we commit our ways to Him and fully trust in Him, He will direct our paths (Proverbs 37:5). Brethren, the faithfulness of our God is unquestionable, His word never fails to achieve what He has purposed. His word is likened to the falling of rain and snow which always reach the earth (Isaiah 55:10), that is how targeted God’s word and leading is assured. It is interesting that God uses nature to show us His faithfulness, the assurance and consistency of the rising and setting of the sun, the seasons etc. all speaking to us that we too can trust in His unfailing love and purpose. Beloved, when God says that He will do something His way, then we can watch the manifestation of His greatness. Ours is to trust Him, expect from Him and stand on the assurance of His word. He is not unjust but a loving Father, when we ask for bread He will not give us anything contrary but will give us good gifts (Matthew 7:10-11), He ensures that our expectations are met and not cut short (Proverbs 23:18), He has a promise of a future and His thoughts and plans for us are for our good (Jeremiah 29:11).
Beloved, let it be God’s way all through. May we learn to trust in Him wholly so that we do not have plan B. He is faithful and worthy of our trust, worthy of our worship. Trust is an element of worship.
