Complete, Perfected
… you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
(Colossians 2:10, NKJV)
There is a way that we all define and explain others, a way that we feel we know someone and therefore a manner in which we relate with them, according to our understanding and expectation of who they are. It is interesting that different people could explain their knowledge of an individual differently, based on their individual relationship. This is applicable even in families, where children know and experience their parents and siblings differently, at times based on age differences or the times and seasons of the family life, not to mention life changes. This leads to each individual having a unique view and knowledge of the parent or sibling, depending on their unique relationship. When we fail to take the different times and changes of our lives into context, we tend to believe that one has not changed and that we know them fully. This is not true, more so when we think of knowing someone at the heart level. We can only tell of another person from our viewpoint but not necessarily from how the individual views themselves or how others would define them. The bible tells us that the heart of man is beyond the understanding of another man and only God who searches the hearts of men knows it (Jeremiah 17:9-10).
Brethren, beyond the knowledge of others about an individual, it is also true that an individual does not know himself fully, different circumstances in life reveal different sides of our personality which at times are surprising even to ourselves. It is an interesting journey of self-discovery when we allow ourselves to learn about our hearts from the experiences we encounter. In this journey, I take comfort in the word of God that I am known by God. Apostle Paul reminds us that if we love God, we are known by Him (1 Corinthians 8:3), this is not the knowing by another human being, but it is a full knowledge of who we are, our weaknesses, strengths, ambitions, talents, everything about us, is all known by Him. Jeremiah reminds us that God knew us even before we were born (Jeremiah 1:5). We can breathe a sigh of relief in the knowledge that we are fully and well known, nothing about us is a mystery to God. We are not strangers or unknown to God.
Beloved, if we acknowledge this to be true, we need to know what God says about us, how He defines us. We have been defined by others and at times even defined ourselves, but maybe it is time to check what God Himself says about us. Our reference verse tells us that we are complete in Him, that is powerful. Often, we feel inadequate and strive to almost be better or to catch up with others, but God tells us that we are COMPLETE in Him. He reminds us that Jesus is the head of all powers and when we are in Him, we are complete. Brothers and sisters, this tells me that we are lacking nothing when we find ourselves in Christ, we are made whole and supplied for in total.
Beloved, we know and believe that God is perfect in all that He does, He is complete all by Himself. From Genesis we read that He looked at His creation and called it good, (Genesis 1:31) it was perfect and today we know Him as perfect in all His ways, He has no flaws, and He takes care of all who seek Him (Psalm 18:30). When we reflect on God as perfect and that He has called us to Himself, we also know we are perfect as He is. Children have the DNA of their parents and in the spiritual sense, we take on the DNA of our Father, we stand complete and perfect in Him. Paul exhorts us to rejoice and be made complete and be comforted living in peace by the knowledge that we have. We will not allow ourselves to be defined by others or to define ourselves by our lack or our weaknesses, but we shall call ourselves how our Father calls us, Complete. Amen.

How do you define yourself?
How does the thought of being complete in Jesus Christ impact you?
What change does this revelation call you to?
