He sees you

See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me

(Isaiah 49:16 NKJV).

There are times when one feels all alone and somewhat invisible to others who could be his help.  We have the saying that one could be lonely even in a crowd, suggesting that feeling alone and a sense of being all by oneself, could very well happen even when we are surrounded by others. Yes, at times having other people around us satisfies not only a sense of acceptance but also a hope for help if we need it, but this is not always the case, people could be around us yet deep inside our hearts we experience a moment of being alone and seemingly invisible.  Brethren, I am inviting us to look at this as a heart issue not the physical reality that others can easily identify with.  We have heard of many individuals who are well known and are always surrounded by others, all looking happy on the outside but at the same time, they are battling with depression and a sense of worthlessness.

Our reference verse is an anchor for our hearts when we feel worthless or unknown even in the midst of plenty in the physical.  God has clearly told us that while we might think we are not being seen, we are continually before Him which means nothing happens to us without His watch.  The bible gives us a record of Hagar, Sarah’s maid who had got a son Ishmael by Abraham.  When Hagar and her son were sent away by Abraham (Genesis 16), they ran out of the food and water they had, so that Hagar saw death for herself and her son. It is recorded that an angel of God appeared to Hagar and helped her see provision of water in the desert to save their lives.  On seeing this, in the midst of her sense of desperation and fear of death, physically all alone in the desert, Hagar experienced a character of God not known before and she called Him El-Roi, “the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13).  Hagar was at the end of her life, but she got help from the God who sees each one of us in our different situations.  This encounter encourages us to know that we are truly never alone, God is always seeing us, He is Jehovah El-Roi.

Brethren, our God never changes, He delivered Hagar and Ishmael when no one else could help them. He indeed was watching over them even when they thought they were at the end of their lives.  Jesus Himself carries on the assurance of His continued presence in our lives, for He told His disciples that He would be with us all through to the end of age (Matthew 28:20), He will never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6), He is forever with us and we are always in His presence, He holds us in the palm of His hands secure and watched over.  The Psalmist knew God’s protection in the battles that he faced so that he knew there was no place to run away to (Psalm 139:7), there is no place to get away from the presence of God, after all, God is omnipresent and there is no vacuum that He does not occupy.

Beloved, in the days of feeling alone and struggling with where help could come from, look up (Psalm 121), our help is in the Lord.  Be reminded that we are always in God’s view, He is always there with us and ready to engage with us, He even listens to our conversations and the confessions of our mouths (Malachi 3:16).  Brethren, it may look like you are alone and defeated but be encouraged, you are never alone, He who is with you is greater than anything that you could be confronting.  The bible reminds us that He is greater than he who is in the world and anything in it (1 John 4:4), you have the victory that He alone can give you.  Find your rest in the palm of His hands, you are safe, secure and comforted.  You are important to Him, you are His, may that give us strength for the journey.

Thoughts

Where is your strength?

How do you snuggle back into your place in God’s palm?

Are there be other places where you are searching for help?

How have you known God as El Roi?
